The Collective Pulse — Part 2: What Are You Putting out there?

YQ for Teams

I promised I’d come back when the final whistle blew.

Well. It blew.

Spain 1, Argentina 0. An extra-time goal in the 106th minute!

And the stat that’s been living in my head ever since:

Argentina: 2 shots at goal. Not one on target.

Spain: 20 of which 12 were on target.

Two shots. For context, I’ve had more attempts than that trying to reply to some WhatsApp messages before losing interest.

So, here’s the question Ed would ask — and Ed is never subtle about these things:

How, exactly, did Argentina think that was good enough?

Because the more you sit with it, the more uncomfortable it becomes.

Argentina made a calculated decision. Hold the line. Absorb the pressure. Get to penalties. A tactical choice — but one that meant pulling the antenna in. Switching from transmitting to surviving.

And here’s what that cost: Lionel Messi — in his final World Cup appearance on that stage — barely made an impact. The greatest player of his generation, transmitting nothing. Kept quiet by his own team’s reluctance to step up and go forward. That’s not strategy. That’s a failure of output. On the biggest occasion of all.

Not good enough.

Spain, meanwhile, did something else entirely.

They kept going. And by never letting up, they made Argentina’s caution irrelevant — Messi and all.

In YQ, we talk about the transmitting antenna — not what you hope for, not what you wish were true, but what you actually put out into the world. Your energy. Your actions. Your sustained signal, even when nothing seems to be connecting.

Twenty shots. Relentless. Structured. Unwavering. Shot 7. Shot 12. Shot 18. Shot 19. Then Torres fired the winning shot in the 106th minute. Not on his own. Porro crossed what looked like a lost ball — Williams met it with a brilliant header, and Torres did the rest.

Ed would say: “That’s what happens when you keep going.”

And Ed would be right. Annoyingly!

So here’s where it stops being about football:

What are you transmitting right now? What are your outputs?

Not in theory. Not in intention. Not in manifesting!

In actual output. Daily. When nothing seems to be connecting.

It’s easy to pull the antenna in. To manage. To protect. To play for penalties and hope someone else blinks first. It feels safe. It might even work sometimes.

But sustained right action — kept up under pressure, even when nothing is going in — that’s what finds the gap eventually.

Spain didn’t win despite their 20 shots.

They won because of them. Better team? On the night, yes. Better because they never stopped transmitting.

The Collective Pulse we talked about last month — that shared humanity lighting up around a tournament — runs on the same principle.

Hope isn’t passive. It transmits. Quietly, steadily, and sometimes all the way to the 106th minute.

Not one person makes the goal — a team does. “Torres the hero.” Sure. But take Williams out of that equation and the ball was out of play.

The question isn’t whether you believe.

The question is whether you’re still transmitting, consistently, when it matters most.

Or have you pulled the antenna in and started hoping for penalties?

Are you ready to take the first step on your journey to becoming simply more You?

I’m curious to find out more…
