Unleashing the power of your early morning

Colin Morris

Seizing the moment when possibilities abound

Something really resonated with me during a recent weekend spent in a small coastal town, so muchly so that I want to share it with you.

While out on a dawn run, I couldn’t help but notice a small group of surfers already out in the water.

The sun was still lolling under the covers of the horizon and it was a Sunday morning, a day when most folks sleep in, indulge in a leisurely breakfast and just let the day slide on by. But not these surfers. They were out there, doing what they love.

Think about it. Each one must have set an alarm, packed their gear, travelled to the beach, changed into wetsuits, waxed their boards and then paddled out to catch the sunrise on what, to me looked like a very calm sea.

At first, I couldn’t understand it.

The sea was flat, almost eerily so, and I wondered if they were simply wasting their time floating about on the swells. Perhaps another way to let the day run away with you?

Yet, as I watched, something remarkable happened. Those distant lines on the horizon began to build, slowly but surely, until they formed sizable waves – enough for the surfers to catch a ride.

It was a moment of clarity for me, a reminder of some fundamental truths about life:

Firstly, the early morning holds a special kind of magic, a time when the world is quiet, and possibilities abound. It’s a time to reconnect with ourselves and our passions, setting the tone for the day and week ahead.

Secondly, when you have a true passion, nothing can stand in your way. These surfers exemplified dedication and perseverance, regardless of the absence of so-called perfect conditions, because their love for surfing outweighed any excuses.

And finally, there’s something incredibly uplifting about sharing moments of joy and triumph with others. As the sun rose in the sky, more surfers joined the few, forming a community bonded by their love for the ocean and the thrill of riding its waves.

So, friends, I urge you to take a page out of the surfers’ playbook. Make time for yourself, connect with your passion, and embrace the opportunities that come your way. When you do, others will join you!

Remember that it’s important to do something that ignites your soul and gives you momentum to go on with your journey filled with peace and joy, or at the very least, a little more than you had when you woke up!

Oh, and as for the reason I was in the city, namely the 40-year reunion, let’s just say some things are best left unsaid!
